Mars in Pisces in 2022: Nothing is as Urgent as What They Tell Us Isn’t Urgent

Key dates:

April 14th, 2022: Mars enters Pisces
May 18th, 2022: Mars conjunct Neptune
May 24th, 2022: Mars leaves Pisces and enters Aries

Almost nothing is as urgent as it feels. Mars in Pisces is sloshy, swampy water, feet getting stuck in the mud, warm beds that are so much more inviting than any mountaintop. Some things really are urgent. Some absolutely must be done right now, post haste… but not that many things.

The world wants us to feel like everything is urgent, everything must be done now now now
look here look here
if you don’t look now you’re going to miss it
act now before it’s too late
keep that device attached to your person at all times or you’re going to miss it.
hurry up
keep going
you’re going to miss it.

(it?)

you better capitalize on this once-in-a-millennium planetary alignment.
oops, you missed it. now it’s too late. now you’re fucked.

And on the other side of the two-way mirror:
if you don’t present things as urgent, they’ll be ignored, lost in the oversaturated sea of Information™
if you don’t post now it’ll be too late
if you don’t present it like it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment opportunity event transit whatever the fuck, it’ll be ignored
if there isn’t a sense of urgency-bordering-on-emergency sewn into everything you share with the world, it’s going to be ignored.you’re going to be ignored.
you’re going to be forgotten.
you will not make a living. you will not make it out alive!

so yell into the camera! (it works)
give them a deadline! (it works)
make it one-time offer! (it works)
make them feel like it’s now or never! (it works)

Everyone is anxious for a fucking reason.

Self-care?

But don’t you dare step off of that hamster wheel. Take this smoke this drink this fuck around and forget how to come just don’t get off of that hamster wheel. It’s normal to be exhausted. It’s normal to be anxious every day. It’s normal to watch your body fall apart piece by piece before you. It’s “just stress.” You don’t need to rest. Here. This will help.

As I’ve said a zillion times already, the number one theme of 2022 is sustainability, and a culture that capitalizes on the artificial illusion of urgent emergency is, by nature, not sustainable. No hamster-wheel lifestyle is sustainable. We are not machines. We are not conveyor belts that sometimes find themselves slowed down by “stress.” We are the bleached coral reefs, the dead bees, the whales washed up on the beach full of plastics. We are the city streets raised only in the wealthier enclaves, leaving everyone else with molded furniture, out-of-reach insurance rates, and sewer water flowing into the streets. Did you know that plastics have now been found in all kinds of human organs, and even in our blood?

2020’s ushering in of pandemic and protests, followed by the ongoing Saturn-Uranus squares of 2021-2022 set the stage for major talks/anxiety on the subject of sustainability and the need for change in all areas of life – work, environment, our bodies and minds, relationships, social issues. 2022 sprouted with Venus retrograde in Capricorn – what is really valuable? what can withstand the test of time? what is sustainable? And soon after the north and south node moved into Taurus and Scorpio, respectively, where they will remain for a year and a half, asking, again, what is sustainable? important? valuable? how will we turn the shit of today into the flourishing garden of tomorrow? when will we let go of the obsession with doom and lean into the pleasant possibilities of what we could create tomorrow? Later in 2022, Mars will retrograde in Gemini – how much information is too much? how fast can our brains go before stimulation becomes anxiety, or before dopamine becomes aggression or psychosis? are the paths we’re walking sustainable? how much rest do we need?

We’re all born into a world that holds a warm gun that only gets hotter to the back of each of our necks. The world wants us to feel like everything is fucking urgent except what is actually urgent – the changes that must be made, the cooling of an earth too hot, the slowing of the grindstone, the lowering of blood pressure, the nourishing of literal and figurative depleted soil, the need for compassion and unity. Pisces Mars remains the aloe in the desert, always soft in its immeasurable power, the last pool at the end of a safari, the ocean into which all the power of the universe empties. Time is longer and shorter than we think it is and the earth and our bodies and bonds are all screaming for balance. Sometimes Pisces Mars waits too long to take action, forgetting that we are still flesh and blood mortals and our days are numbered, but Pisces Mars knows how to take it the fuck easy. It puts down the phone, turns on a documentary about cats and takes another nap. Tomorrow will be here. Tomorrow will wait. It’s not all about burning at both ends just to meet it. Just gotta help each other let the rain come.
