A Toast to Jupiter in Pisces • May 13, 2021–July 28, 2021

Jupiter comes into our lives like fireworks in the Land of Oz. Soft hair, sparkling seas, dark eyes winking in the sun. At a villa in some distant place, the horizon is waiting for you. Seaside cliffs and sun-ripened grapes are waiting for you. Somewhere a lover is waiting for you, just you, to feed those grapes to them. “Your dreams are all out there; it’s all possible and it’s all gonna happen,” purrs the Jupiterian trifecta – the airplane, the politician, and the preacher on the pulpit.

Jupiter can be both popping champagne and finding yourself in the bottom of the bottle years down the line (the 5 of pentacles always felt very, very Jupiter-at-its-worst to me). We can get carried away in our extravagance, our belief in the future, in big lies and big parties and big dreams. But at this moment in history, even I, the voice of doom, will venture to say that we need to fucking indulge. We need to swim in the ocean and throw parties and host orgies. We need to heal Jupiter-style: holistically. We need to believe that there is a better future, even if only for a moment (Jupiter will have retrograded soberingly back into Aquarius by the end of July). Jupiter in Pisces gives us a push to do better, to open a new road up and out. It gives us a bright opportunity to heal our Piscean ills (escapism, avoidance, guilt, substance abuse, boundary violation and more) – if you find yourself struggling with your inner Pisces, look for the breakthrough revelation: what’s really holding you back? what lies have you been sold? what have you sacrificed yourself to? The remedy is in Pisces too – it’s in compassion and empathy directed inwardly and outwardly, spirituality, optimism and faith, letting go, “alternative” healing modalities, the subconscious, the collective, soul-to-soul connection, universal love, dreaming freely. “The way out is in.” The way out is also in taking all that has been spit on and once again making it sacred. With an big, unapologetic laugh, turn to the devil and ask to buy your soul back.

Jupiter has the ability to make everything bigger, including issues, but it bestows a boundless, glistening, otherworldly optimism that can drive out the fears that normally overwhelm us. Yes, Jupiter can blow up our existing issues, but it also gives us the hope that we can get the fuck out of there once and for all. It also often shows up as a person in our lives – the person who opens your mind and sets you free… or the person who leads you down the primrose path. The surprise wise one… or the man behind the curtain who has always been just a man. Jupiter takes on many forms and there’s wisdom in all of its actors. Learn their lessons and only hop aboard the magic carpet when you’re sure you can handle the jet lag. Find yourself some shark-free waters and go skinny dipping with the flow. We have to step outside of our comfort zone if we’re ever to expand it.

My great worry with Jupiter in Pisces, and I *think* this idea was presented to me by Pisces queen @star.and.soil on Instagram, is that this transit will ultimately blow up some of the more extreme cult mentalities and mass misinformation campaigns that have taken the world by storm in recent years. The twinkling eyes of the magic fish turn to black holes out in the desert – at its grungiest, Jupiter appears as the cult that fishes you out of your prison only to put you in the Land of Oz, the land of backdrops and acid and Ambien. Jupiter rules truth, but that means that it thinks it can decide what is true. We can be deceived. Once we get into the glistening flow of this transit, glide on faith, yes, and keep both eyes open.

Accessing Jupiter in Pisces’ great fortune means freeing others along with ourselves. I live with a Pisces and we often allow our lawn to grow wild, and the biodiversity here seems unmatched in this area. There are bees covering my flowering bushes. Strange insects I’ve never seen elsewhere. Wildflowers covering the lawn. Birds and deer and little mammals tunneling. Wild edibles growing in all corners of the property. This is what Jupiter in Pisces should feel like. Cultivated abundance for the greater good. If I can single-handedly save the bee population in my area alone through my own expansive enjoyment of the earth, I’m gonna.

At this moment in time, Jupiter in Pisces feels like a toast to the gods who have lately played us like fucking violins. In this moment we ascend the stairs of the temple by way of pedestal and plane, by crutch or by wings, and join them. Let us all wake up with full bellies and bank accounts and no headaches. Let this be a blessing, a gift, a breakthrough. Let this be an overdue toast to the roaring ‘20s, part deux. Let freedom ring, for all. For once.
